To promote scientific communication among ophthalmologists in the People's Republic of China and in the United States, representatives of American ophthalmology traveled through China from May 21 to 31, 1978.
Including practicing ophthalmologists, members of academic faculties, and representatives of ophthalmology organizations, the group consisted of Patricia E. Bath, MD; Robert H. Bedrossian, MD; Edward O. Bierman, MD; Roy Cameron, photographer; William Conner, chairman of the board, Alcon Laboratories, Inc; Robert E. Christensen, MD; Thomas C. Gettelfinger, MD; Plato J.
