To the Editor.

—I wish to take exception to the use of the diagnostic classification of "atypical angiomatosis retinae" in the Feature Photo published by Drs O'Connor and Kaiser in the December 1975 issue of the ARCHIVES (93:1368, 1975). "Angiomatosis retinae" is the widely accepted term denoting the clinical findings associated with the specific syndrome of dominantly inherited retinal vascular tumors originally described by Lindau and often associated with many other tumors, particularly those of the cerebellum originally described by von Hippel. A use of this term for a clinical presentation that is not intended to be the syndrome of von Hippel and Lindau can only be confusing. May I suggest the use of a term such as "an atypical retinal vascular tumor-like lesion," instead of the more specific "angiomatosis retinae."

The excellent photographs and fluorescein angiogram published by Drs O'Connor and Kaiser bear some resemblance to the entity popularized . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
