This publication is the companion volume to a similar treatise published last year by Pierre Guibor, MD, and Henry P. Gouglemann.
The Annual Meeting of the American Society of Ocularists provided the setting of many superb papers presented in this convention. Ophthalmologists and ocularists discuss their treatment methods of the enucleated, eviscerated, or exposed eye. Emphasis is placed on management of complications. Many case presentations are given to exemplify the various therapeutic methods. The controversy of enucleation vs evisceration is aired in some detail as is the topic of sympathetic uveitis following evisceration.
This book is not meant to be a text; nonetheless, it encompasses the various treatment modalities available for the monocular patient. Expertly written, it cannot fail to increase the reader's knowledge of treatment methods in a complex area. I highly recommend this publication to any ophthalmologist who performs enucleations and eviscerations.
