The operating microscope is rapidly becoming a part of every ophthalmic surgeon's armamentarium. In this book, Dr. Troutman has prepared the best text that is currently available for the introduction and development of microsurgical skills. He describes fundamentals of mechanical design and surgical technique that cannot be found in any other book. The value of the volume as a surgical atlas is enhanced by its simple, yet comprehensible illustrations.

Optical principles of operating microscopes and the use of surgical keratometry are discussed in clinically useful terms. Two chapters are devoted to instrument design and manipulation, which are subjects frequently overlooked by ophthalmic surgeons. A careful study of these sections can guide the ophthalmologist to an appropriate choice of instruments and to their proper use and care.
