To the Editor.
—In the annual review on the physiological chemistry of the eye in the April 1970 issue of the Archives (83:506-522), paragraph 2 on page 513 seems rather confusing in that the attempt is made to compare two quantities which are not comparable. The regeneration time obtained by Rushton and his collaborators is referred to what appears to be a total time, whereas the data obtained by Ripps and myself are expressed in the form of a half-time. Although there is no doubt that the data obtained by Rushton and his collaborators are seriously in error because of the technique employed, the apparent discrepancy is magnified unfairly on account of the basis of the comparison made by your reviewer. The latter also states that "it would be of interest to determine the regeneration time after a more exhaustive bleach." Data (Vision Res 2:25, 1962) on this
