This concisely written and profusely illustrated text encompasses many of the standard operative procedures currently employed. It is primarily a text for residents in ophthalmology and otolaryngology and this would appear to be its intent. To assist in the training of ophthalmic surgeons one might hope that future editions would describe a wider range of surgical techniques and provide greater detail for some of the procedures. For example, one operation for senile entropion or for closure of lacerations of the lids involving the margin would hardly seem sufficient in a book of this caliber.
About one fourth of the book concerns ophthalmic surgery and the remainder ear, nose, and throat procedures. Therefore, it has limited value to the ophthalmology resident, especially as it is not sufficiently comprehensive to serve as a basic text for surgery.
