Professor R. Weekers of the University of Liège, Belgium, arranged a Symposium of some 35 European and American scholars who had done outstanding work in the field of strabismic amblyopia and related subjects, for the week of Sept 22, 1965. The proceedings of this Symposium were published as volume 23 of Documenta Ophthalmologica, in 1967. It was a star-studded event, a convocation of the best brains occupying themselves with the problem of strabismic amblyopia—its genesis and treatment—a red week or a black week (depending on how you look at it) in the history of pleoptics. (Said or unsaid: It was pleoptics that the meeting was to place on the scales.) Professor Hans Goldmann was the Symposium's chairman, Professor Nordmann was secretary and editor. The US participants ("in order of appearance") were Boeder, Enoch, Burian, von Noorden, and C. E. Wilson.
