Geometrical Optics is a well written clearly illustrated book. It provides more broad and greater depth information than is generally available to the ophthalmologist. Although mathematics is employed to explain various effects and to provide background for final equations, it is not of a sophisticated type requiring unusual training for comprehension.

The subjects of this book include refraction, reflection, ray tracing, optical systems, stop theory, aberrations, and prisms. General optical instruments, microscopes and telescopes, are considered in detail but not specific ophthalmic instruments. As indicated by the title the author does not include physiological optics.

This excellent book by a distinguished contributor to physiological optics will be of value to those with a specific interest in geometrical optics. . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
