This monograph is an excellent study of the events taking place within the eye following intravenous injection of a large number of rabbits with a measured amount of Candida albicans blastospores. The author chose a dose sufficient to produce circumscribed chorioretinal lesions that eventually yielded to the defense mechanisms of the rabbit without killing it. At frequent intervals after the injection, from 15 minutes up to two months, ophthalmoscopic and histologic findings were compared. Within 12 hours a choroidal reaction of leukocytes, histiocytes, and lymphocytes takes place surrounding the blastospores, while in the overlying retina, the spores sprout into mycelia. Three days later, the inflammatory reaction in the choroid invades the retina to destroy mycelia by phagocytosis. At two months, only chorioretinal scars remain. The author believes the majority of the injected spores are distributed to the choroid rather than to the retina because of the large number of short
