This volume of Documenta Ophthalmologica presents excellent papers from two symposia held in September, 1963, in the Netherlands. The first symposium dealt with the physiology of flicker-electroretinography (ERG), and the second with the clinical application of several interesting techniques involving flicker-ERG. The former two-day symposium discussed the relationships between flickering light, ERG, occipital potentials, and the electrical responses at various points along the retinal-occipital path. The papers were carefully selected, and each represents a thorough investigation.
The clinical symposium outlined the role of Flicker-ERG in clinical practice. The use of flicker technique in metabolic and circulatory disturbances was discussed in detail. The retinal-occipital potentials were investigated from various aspects, showing that a retinal profile could be obtained from computer analysis of these potentials. Evolved retinal potentials were usedto demonstrate that retinal electroperimetry was feasible. Many topics were discussed concisely, making this volume excellent reading for those interested in the important
