This volume of Documenta Ophthalmologica presents excellent papers from two symposia held in September, 1963, in the Netherlands. The first symposium dealt with the physiology of flicker-electroretinography (ERG), and the second with the clinical application of several interesting techniques involving flicker-ERG. The former two-day symposium discussed the relationships between flickering light, ERG, occipital potentials, and the electrical responses at various points along the retinal-occipital path. The papers were carefully selected, and each represents a thorough investigation.

The clinical symposium outlined the role of Flicker-ERG in clinical practice. The use of flicker technique in metabolic and circulatory disturbances was discussed in detail. The retinal-occipital potentials were investigated from various aspects, showing that a retinal profile could be obtained from computer analysis of these potentials. Evolved retinal potentials were usedto demonstrate that retinal electroperimetry was feasible.
