The First E. B. Dunphy Lecture

It is a great honor to have the privilege of giving the first lecture in honor of Dr. E. B. Dunphy. I have known him all my ophthalmological life and on countless occasions have benefited from his wise counsel. For 21 years Dr. Dunphy was our Chief at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and Professor of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School. Though now retired from these positions, he is still known as "the Chief." Always able to see both sides of a question, one of his salient characteristics has been fairness to all. Everyone, from the beginning resident to the senior surgeon, has always known that his opinion would be given without prejudice and in accordance with the facts.
