This timely text accomplishes all that its editors intended. A record of a post-graduate course in ocular therapeutics and pharmacology recently given at the University of California School of Medicine has been transcribed in its entirety and published in book form. The editors hoped to widen the audience reached by this course and have presented all students and practitioners of ophthalmology as well as interested internists with an informative and concise review of recent advances in nonsurgical ocular therapeutics.
Interested in depth rather than breadth, the faculty including Drs. Hogan, Kimura, Leopold, and other recognized experts in ocular pharmacology have limited the subject matter to four major fields of interest. Diagnostic and therapeutic problems of uveitis, ophthalmic infections, diabetic retinopathy, and ocular herpes simplex are presented with emphasis on etiology, the basic rationale of therapy, pertinent clinical features, and specific therapy.
