To the Editor:

—I read with great interest the observations of Dr. K. W. Ascher (ARCH OPHTHAL 70:444, 1963) on a pinwheel phosphene. I have recently treated a local optician who noted the appearance of a slowly revolving "black and white fan" which preceded the development of a paramacula scotoma from chorioretinal inflammatory disease of undetermined etiology. Subsequently a similar "fan" was noted immediately preceding the development of a central scotoma with this eye. He believes that the "fans" moved clockwise on both occasions and the involvement was with his left eye. The paramacula scotoma persists and the central scotoma has completely resolved without further awareness of the spinning "fans." . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
