A Report of 16 Cases Including Long-Term Follow-Up

Anterior uveitis in children is, fortunately, a rare disease. Until 1953 the only publications concerning this entity were scattered case reports. Since that time, however, several groups^1-4 have reported series of patients with childhood uveitis. The management and prognosis have received little emphasis.

The clinical program at the National Institutes of Health has provided favorable conditions for the evaluation and follow-up of a relatively large series of children with anterior uveitis. The nature of the Institute has further permitted prolonged hospital observation and more extensive laboratory evaluation than is generally feasible in private institutions. For these reasons a detailed analysis of all patients seen at the National Institutes of Health with the onset of anterior uveitis prior to 16 years of age was undertaken.
