Books on ophthalmic surgery and particularly ophthalmic plastic surgery are frequently difficult for the reader to evaluate since in most instances the author usually compiles from the literature all procedures which have been published as providing the surgical solution for the defect under question. Not infrequently these are supported by line drawings of surgical maneuvers which, although capable of execution on paper, are totally inadequate when applied to the patient. Dr. Fox is to be commended in describing "with a few noted exceptions" only those procedures which he has utilized himself. The reviewer believes that this type of book is far more effective than the encyclopedic compendium which purports to cover all phases of a subject and yet leaves the reader uncertain as to which technical procedure the author has found most satisfactory. The present edition is far more comprehensive, better organized, and more useful than its predecessors. The author
