To the Editor:

—I have read the March issue of the ARCHIVES, and I would like to correct one of the news items on page 413: "Vail Elected." Derrick Vail was not elected by the Congress but by the International Federation of Ophthalmological Societies which held a meeting in New Delhi at the same time as the Congress was held there.

I admit the confusion is excusable, and here is the exact relationship between the International Congress of Ophthalmology, the International Federation of Ophthalmological Societies, and the International Council of Ophthalmology. The Federation has about 60 societies affiliated from all over the world. The Federation organizes every four years an International Congress, choosing its location and setting its date. From that time on a National Committee organizes the International Congress.
