—In July 1962, five months ago, through the courtesy of John D. Hutchison & Co., Hongkong, I received a free supply of 5-iodo-2'-deoxyuridine (IDU), made by Smith, Kline & French Laboratories, Philadelphia, for experimental use. I understand that this chemical preparation to date is still not available commercially. I extended an invitation to members of the Hongkong Ophthalmological Society to send me any of their herpetic keratitis cases, to share clinical observation with me without charge to the patients. Herpetic keratitis is not a very common eye disease here. It occurs in crops at a certain time of the year and in certain years, and as this happened to be a rather lean period, I have collected only a few cases of typical textbook herpes of the cornea in the early stage.
