If the difficult part of writing lies in deciding what to leave out, the authors of this monograph should have had an easy time. Not only have they included almost every manifestation culled from the world literature on diseases caused by known viruses, but also they have covered the eye findings in a number of diseases of unknown etiology in which a viral origin is merely a remote possibility. Among the latter are Boeck's sarcoid, Stevens-Johnson disease, and pemphigus. In a work of this magnitude, however, comprehensive coverage is neither a fault nor an easy achievement. In this case the combined efforts of the three workers have produced an authoritative and valuable reference work.
