Professor Karl Lindner, 1883-1961.—With the death of Professor Karl Lindner on May 12, 1961, the world of Ophthalmology mourns the loss of a great personality. At the age of 78 his life came to an end during the delivery of a paper at the annual meeting of the Austrian Ophthalmological Society in Salzburg, where he was surrounded by his colleagues, pupils, and friends. Although Professor Lindner had suffered an attack of coronary occlusion on his way to the last International Congress in Brussels, his appearance indicated recovery, and he seemed to have regained much of his youthful strength and spirits. In the past, this gift of good health was the source of his untiring energy which allowed him to carry an extraordinarily heavy work load as investigator, university teacher, and physician and to enjoy, at the same time, a full and happy family life, a garden, and extensive traveling. . . .
