To the Editor:

—My article "Lid Halving with Variations" which you were kind enough to publish in the May, 1961 ARCHIVES OF OPHTHALMOLOGY contained a description of Wheeler's halving procedure. Here I pointed out that Wheeler's halving was only half a halving because the lid was not split nor was tarsus resected. This information was obtained from 4 different articles published by Wheeler^1-4 from 1919 to 1936. Not only did the illustrations in these articles show no lid splitting but the text was in accordance with the illustrations.

Despite the apparently overwhelming evidence of Wheeler's own writing I was apparently wrong. I am now informed by men who worked with him that Wheeler did split the lid and did resect tarsus in doing his halving. Dr. Charles A.
