To the Editor:
—(Letter addressed to Dr. A. R. Irvine, Jr. in regard to the latter's "Annual Review: The Lens and Vitreous," ARCH. OPHTHAL. 65:592, 1961.)
In referring to my paper there is one misunderstanding which I feel should be corrected. The last sentence of your article reads, "Intense and prolonged ultrasound may produce 3 types of intraocular lesions; heat coagulation of tissues; bubble formation secondary to cavitation phenomenon; and displacement of retinal cells unless irradiation is done in a vacuum." The word vacuum is erroneous. The last phrase refers to the paper by Donn, A.: Ultrasonic Wave Liquefaction of the Vitreous Humor in Living Rabbits, A.M.A. Arch. Ophthal. 53:215, 1955, who had injected air into the vitreous so that he might liquefy the vitreous by intense ultrasonic radiation.
