This textbook, written in German by F. Rintelen, Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Basel, is intended for the use of medical students, general practitioners, and specialists in other fields of medicine. A section is devoted to each anatomical structure of the eye and its adnexa, including the extraocular muscles, the optic nerve, and the chiasm and optic tracts. Each chapter includes a description of the anatomy, physiology, methods of examination, and pathology of the ocular structure under discussion. Under the last heading, diseases involving the eye are found classified as traumatic, inflammatory, circulatory, degenerative, or tumorous. In addition, there is a section dealing with the medicolegal and social aspects of ocular injuries and of blindness. The book closes with a survey of the history of ophthalmology, a glossary of ophthalmologic terms, a list of medicines used in ophthalmology, and a list of authorities cited in the text.
