Aid to Cuban Ophthalmologists.
—The newspapers have informed the American public of the large number of Cuban refugees who have escaped the tyranny of the Castro regime in their homeland. It did not seem to be a matter that concerned us individually until it came to our attention that 10 of these were ophthalmologists who had been forced to leave their practices more or less precipitantly in the past several months. They were unable to bring anything out with them and for the most part are without resources.
The University of Miami School of Medicine has set up a postgraduate course to train and certify these men in order that they may qualify for work in the United States. The University, however, has no funds for the day-to-day living of these unfortunate colleagues of ours. Their need is urgent.
