Dr. Eugene Wolff's text of ophthalmology intended for the general practitioner and medical student went through four editions until his untimely death. Dr. Smith has undertaken the task of revising a fifth edition and has succeeded in maintaining the general approach which made Wolff's book popular. He has also included new entities and has revised the chapters on the retinopathies and on glaucoma. The illustrations for the most part are excellent, although they are not uniformly good, and in a future edition some of the older illustrations, particularly in color, which would obviously not be recognizable were it not for the caption, should be omitted. . . .
