—Thank you for letting us see Dr. Manucher Javid's letter. He seems worried about priority and about bringing to the A.M.A. ARCHIVES OF OPHTHALMOLOGY readers' attention six publications from his department.

We made no claim whatsoever for priority. We did refer in our paper to two of Javid's publications which we felt were pertinent to our text. We also referred to others who had published before he had, including Hertel (our reference number 1), who wrote on this subject some seven years before Dr. Javid was born. If priority is important, though we feel that it should not be among serious investigators who should be more interested in advancing medical and scientific knowledge than personalities, priority in the ophthalmological field should go to Hertel who published in 1914, and in the joint field of intraocular and intracranial pressure, to Fremont-Smith and Forbes (our reference number 3), who . . .
