To the Editor:

—In the December, 1958, issue of the A. M. A. ARCHIVES OF OPHTHALMOLOGY, an article by Drs. Barsky and Schimek recounted the difficulties experienced by them with the use of Gelfilm in a cyclodialysis operation on rabbits. It is our impression that their technique and not the Gelfilm was responsible for the severe reactions that ensued in the rabbit eyes. We at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York have done rabbit experiments, followed by operations on patients, as devised by one of us (J. Y.), placing Gelfilm through a scleral opening into the anterior chamber, the pupil first being made miotic. Our results have been uniformly good, and there has been no inflammatory reaction in the rabbit eyes and in the eyes of the patients operated on with this procedure.
