—In order to avoid as much misconception as possible, may I comment on an article appearing in the October, 1957, issue of the ARCHIVES by I. I. Eliasoph (page 495).

I had the privilege of publishing a paper on the possible correlation of carbon dioxide (or its relative lack) in the etiology of retrolental fibroplasia, three years ago. To my knowledge that was the first article on this subject, and I would like to provide the reference should any of your readers be interested:

Fortier, E. G.: The Therapeutic Possibilities of Carbon Dioxide in the Prevention of Retrolental Fibroplasia, Am. J. Ophth. 38:342-348 (Sept.) 1954.

Just why Dr. Eliasoph did not give even passing notice to what is probably the only previously published article encompassing his subject is conjectural; perhaps he did not know about my article, but it is easily available, appearing in an issue of . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
