Anyone who has had medical students to teach knows how difficult it is to obtain patients with the commoner inflammatory diseases of the eyes and adnexa at the time of teaching rounds. Few patients with inflammatory lesions of the lids and conjunctiva come to the eye dispensary these days, since the general physician, who sees them first, cures them with antibiotics, and yet these are just the cases that the medical student should be shown and told how to treat.
This beautiful atlas will go a long way toward solving this problem, as the vast majority of diseases depicted are those which the general physician will see. The illustrations, all of them in color, are excellent, and each is accompanied by a short descriptive paragraph. The illustrations of external diseases are largely photographs, while the majority of the fundus lesions pictures are paintings. This is as it should be, since
