In this atomic age it is necessary to disseminate all the facts that can be ascertained regarding the effects of atomic explosions. With this in mind, the following case report is presented.

REPORT OF A CASE

S. H., a white man 24 years of age, entered the Army in December, 1950. His entrance examination revealed vision as 20/20 in each eye. In August, 1952, he became a candidate for the Engineer Officers School, and the examination at this time showed 20/20 in each eye. He graduated from this school on Feb. 2, 1953. On April 25, 1953, as a Second Lieutenant, he was in charge of a platoon of soldiers detailed for training purposes at Yucca Flats, during an atomic explosion test. At 4: 30 a. m., before sunrise, his men marched down a ramp into a trench 5 ft. deep. He was the last man to enter the trench. . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
