This volume is the third in a series which began in 1953. Each chapter covers a division of medicine or surgery. The chapter on ophthalmology was prepared by Dr. Manuel L. Stillerman, and consists of nine pages, dealing with retrolental fibroplasia, infantile glaucoma, the use of acetazoleamide (Diamox) in glaucoma, and radioctive phosphorus in the detection of intraocular cancer. Although Dr. Stillerman has prepared his summaries well, they are so restricted in scope that they are of little benefit to an ophthalmologist, and it is a good guess that an internist or a general surgeon would gain little useful information in these subjects by a perusal of these nine pages. Similarly, it is hardly to be expected that an ophthalmologist would learn very much from the other nineteen chapters.
