pHisoHex (pHisoderm with hexachlorophene) is widely used as a preoperative cleansing agent for ocular surgery. A review of the literature revealed no reports pertinent to the effects, favorable or unfavorable, of this bactericide upon the human cornea.

Our recent experience with the use of pHisoHex as a preoperative cleansing agent for the face and lids indicates that this preparation is capable of inducing chemical injury to the corneal tissues.

A study of pHisoHex keratitis is presented in three sections:

1. Report of clinical cases of pHisoHex keratitis
   
2. Observations on pHisoHex induced keratitis in the rabbit and dog
   
3. Histopathology of pHisoHex keratitis in the rabbit and dog
