FIRST, I thank you most sincerely for the great honor you have done me in inviting me to give this lecture in memory of the late Charles H. May. Charles H. May came to New York at the age of 4, and in this great city his work as a famous teacher, a skillful surgeon, and a man of absolute integrity of character and high ethical standards justifiably earned him an international reputation and the high regard of his colleagues in this and in many countries abroad. His well-known book, which ran to 18 editions during his life and is being continued by his nephew, Dr. Charles A. Perera, exemplifies the soundness of his judgment and his vast clinical experience. His ability as an artist is shown in his fundus paintings, and his optical ingenuity, in the design of the earliest electric ophthalmoscope. As a fitting tribute to the impartiality . . .
