IN THIS paper an investigation to determine the incidence of cararact in patients with atopic dermatitis is reported. Such cataracts, first described by Andogsky,¹ were called "dermatogenous cataracts"; this term, however, included cataracts associated not only with atopic dermatitis but with several other dermatoses. Since Coca² the term "atopic cataract" has been employed.

There is no report in the literature of the study of a large series of patients with atopic dermatitis (such as is given here) to determine the incidence of atopic cataract. Too few of the reported cases of atopic cataract afford a proper description to justify the conclusion that such cataract is distinctive and can be ascribed to the cutaneous disease. In some reports no mention is made of examination with the slit lamp, and in others the changes in the lens are not described in sufficient detail to convey a proper concept of such . . .
