SALZMANN'S NODULAR CORNEAL DYSTROPHY

Nodular corneal dystrophy was first described by Groenouw in 1898. In 1925, Salzmann1 reported twenty-three cases of a nodular form of corneal dystrophy which differed in several respects from Groenouw's nodular corneal dystrophy, but which, for want of a suitable distinctive and descriptive name, he called, "a variety of nodular corneal dystrophy." To date no additional case has been added to the literature. All cases studied by Salzmann and reported by him in the group just mentioned came under his observation after December, 1914, in the eye clinic of the University at Graz, Austria. It is significant that Salzmann did not see one such case during the many years he was associated with the eye clinic at the University of Vienna, although the number of patients seen in that clinic was much greater than that seen in the eye clinic of the University at Graz.
