HUMAN CONJUNCTIVA GRAFTED ON THE CHORIOALLANTOIS OF CHICK EMBRYOS

IN THIS study we report an attempt to graft human conjunctiva on the chorioallantois of chick embryos according to the method developed by Goodpasture and associates for the human skin.1

TECHNIC

The conjunctival sac was anesthetized by instillation of 1 drop of a 4 per cent solution of cocaine hydrochloride. An oval piece of conjunctiva, 7 to 8 mm. long and about 2 to 3 mm. wide, was excised with scissors from the lower fornix and transferred into 2 cc. isotonic solution of sodium chloride containing 50 Oxford units of penicillin per cubic centimeter. The fragments of conjunctiva suspended in this solution were placed in a refrigerator for four to six hours.

Fertile hens' eggs kept in an incubator for eight to eleven days were used in the grafting experiments. The eggs were candled, and the places corresponding with the air bubble and the large membrane vessels were marked . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
