The last edition of Gifford's "Hand-Book of Ocular Therapeutics" appeared in 1942; so a revision is timely. This task, and the incorporation of new material which was made necessary by progress along certain lines, fell to Dr. Derrick Vail, who was assisted by Dr. F. C. Cordes in the revision of the chapter on "Specific and Non-Specific Protein Therapy," on parts of the chapter on "Physical Therapy" and on all of the chapters on "Diseases of the Optic Nerves and Central Visual Pathways." Dr. J. G. Bellows has been helpful in revising and bringing up to date the information on the sulfonamide drugs and the antibiotic substances. It seemed wisest to defer the introduction of the new antihistamine agents until further knowledge is gained. The chapter on "Disorders of the Muscular Apparatus" has been omitted, with perfectly correct reasoning. It is always difficult to decide on the selection of topics . . .
