In 1943 this association celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary with a scientific session, at which the papers which appear in this volume were presented.

A report was first given by Dr. Fernando Silva on the activities of the hospital of this association during 1943. There were 14,808 consultations, 1,126 refractions and 599 operations. The hospital has a capacity of eighteen beds. The surgical procedures included 20 enucleations; 175 cataract extractions; 15 dacryocystorhinostomies, and 88 operations for pterygium, 20 for glaucoma, 4 for detachment of the retina, 3 for removal of intraocular foreign bodies and 25 for correction of strabismus.

The following scientific papers were presented: "Keratoconus: Its Diagnosis and Treatment," by Martin I. Green, San Francisco; "Sympathetic Ophthalmitis," by Raúl Arturo Chavíra; "The Urgency of the Gonin Operation," by Marc Amsler, and "Pathogenesis of Punctate Keratitis in Onchocerciasis," by A.
