To assist the general practitioner in the recognition and treatment of those diseases of the eye that patients are likely to present, as well as to indicate those diseases that should be referred to the specialist, is the purpose of this work. The subject is divided into the usual anatomic subdivisions, working from the lids backward. The more common diseases are briefly but adequately described, and the directions for treatment are clear and concise. A chapter is devoted to the examination of the eye in diseases of the nervous system, and another treats of the localizing value of symptoms in the eye in the diagnosis of disease of the brain. A chapter on the hygiene of the eye and a list of therapeutic formulae conclude the volume.
