In certain cases it is possible to cure or to alleviate ocular disease by finding and eliminating foci of sepsis. However, it would be untrue to say that improvement of the patient's condition may be similarly effected in all similar cases. It is proposed to give some account of conditions in which this method of investigation and treatment is of value.

It is also proposed to mention certain forms of ocular disease which are commonly associated with the definite presence of focal sepsis, but in which a cure cannot be expected by elimination of the focus.

When the ophthalmic surgeon finds that ocular disease that may be attributable to focal sepsis is present, he must take steps to determine the matter by some preliminary investigation.
