Numerous changes in the visual requirements of the military services and many requests for reprints of the original article have necessitated this revision of "Ophthalmic Requirements of the Military Services" (ARCH. OPHTH. 27: 1202-1214 [June] 1942). The review is presented also at the request of the American Committee on Optics and Visual Physiology and with the approval and cooperation of the surgeon generals of the Army, Navy and United States Public Health Service.
The purposes of the revision, as of the original article, are (1) to help ophthalmic military and civilian examiners quickly find needed information and (2) to promote greater efficiency in the enforcement of current military regulations concerning ophthalmic requirements. The following order of material is used for each of the military services : (1) functional requirements, (2) qualifying and disqualifying conditions and diseases and (3) references for changes in ophthalmic requirements which have been issued since June 1942
