Good results with any technic involving the placement of corneoscleral sutures lie in the operator's ability to profit by repetition; however, in my opinion the faults are exceedingly difficult to iron out. The placing of sutures prior to section, as in the technic of Kalt,¹ Liégard,² Mendoza,³ Baldino,⁴ Lindner,⁵ Walker,⁶ Verhoeff⁷ and McLean,⁸ demands dexterity in completing the section through the prepared tract or between previously placed sutures.

This dexterity with a cataract knife is not a constant, and for that reason I present a method which has enabled me to circumvent its lack.

As so ably described by McLean:

The ideal suture for closing cataract wounds should be inserted in solid corneal and scleral tissue and not in loose, yielding conjunctiva.
