Grenz rays are widely used in the practice of dermatology as a therapeutic measure. They are used to a limited extent in the field of ophthalmology.

The good results obtained by one of us in the treatment of certain dermatologic diseases and the casuistic reports of favorable results in the treatment of ocular diseases in the recent literature¹ led us to investigate carefully the possibilities of the application of grenz rays in the field of ophthalmology and if possible to arrive at a safe and correct dose of these rays for the treatment of diseases of the eye.

Before observations could be made on the therapeutic effect of these rays, the following problems had to be solved satisfactorily : (1) the degree of absorption in the various tissues of the eye, a factor which largely determines the damaging effects which these rays may have on the delicate and important parts . . .
