In the foreword it is stated that a great country like India, which gave birth to ophthalmic surgery, should have a journal of ophthalmology of its own, and as the problem of blindness in India is an acute one, the editors have been induced to make this undertaking.

The present number contains the following four original articles : "Extraction of Subluxated Lens, Made Nonviolent by Lever Action Intracapsular Operation," by Kartik Chunder Dutt ; "Foreign Bodies of the Eye: Some Observations," by Shafi Mehkri ; "Phlyctenular Keratoconjunctivitis : Its Etiology and Treatment," by Sridhar V. Oak, and "Correcting Spastic Entropion of the Upper Lid Following Total Tarsectomy, by Transplanting a Shaving from Concha Auriculae," by H. L. Anand.
