As the intracapsular operation is being used by an increasing number of operators throughout the world, it seems of interest to examine the complications which have occurred in a series of 500 successive intracapsular operations to determine to what degree these complications can be ascribed to the method of operating and to study their significance and the possibility of their prevention.

This series includes every intracapsular extraction which I performed up to the completion of the 500 on May 15, 1934. The cases have been reported on in series of 100, and these reports have been published in the ARCHIVES OF OPHTHALMOLOGY.
