Recently, an article titled "Transthoracic Echocardiographic Findings in Patients With Acute Retinal Arterial Obstruction: A Retrospective Review" was published.1 This study did not break down the results by age.
Ever since I received my medical training, I have had the impression (and I doubt that this is supported by evidence) that younger patients are more likely to have an identifiable cause of an acute retinal arterial obstruction than older patients. If the results of the study mentioned were given by age (eg, <50 years compared with 50 years), what would the outcome have been?
