WHEN I FIRST READ the article by Stewart et al1 in this issue of the ARCHIVES, concerning the daily cost of β-adrenergic blocker therapy, I wanted to shrug it off and simply ignore the information in the article. This reaction was because I believe things are already extremely complicated for the majority who treat glaucoma. But, if you are a glaucoma specialist and all you do is take care of patients with glaucoma, then maybe it's not so complicated. However, most of us who take care of patients with glaucoma are comprehensive ophthalmologists and we need to know much more than just the glaucoma medications. For the majority of clinicians, this whole area of multiple β-blockers, the new glaucoma drugs, the availability of laser, and other treatment modalities can be confusing.
