The Eye in Infancy, first published in 1988, has become the primary ophthalmology text for neonatal practitioners. As the first systematic reference concerning the eye from prenatal development through infancy, this reference book filled a need of pediatricians, neonatologists, and geneticists as well as ophthalmologists for a broad-based, well-referenced resource. The rapidly increasing body of knowledge in this area has required a second edition within the relatively short span of 6 years. All the chapters have been revised, but the majority of the new material for this edition is in three areas: the development of vision and vision testing, retinopathy of prematurity, and molecular genetics.
