The fifth of a projected 10-volume series in the Textbook of Ophthalmology edited by Steven Podos, MD, and Myron Yanoff, MD, Strabismus and Pediatric Ophthalmology is a topical introduction to strabismus and topics in pediatric ophthalmology. As might be expected in a volume of 270 pages, the authors have chosen to be less comprehensive than the title might suggest. Many subjects that are relevant to pediatric ophthalmology are included elsewhere in the series.

Nearly two thirds of the book is devoted to the pathophysiology, diagnosis, management, and complications of strabismus. These 13 chapters include recent developments as well as established dogma. With the exception of a few errors (eg, prism position for vergence measurements on page 4.14), the authors have addressed their topics well with coherence and smooth editing.
