Ronald E. Smith, MD, Appointed Chair at USC.

Ronald E. Smith, MD, has been appointed chair at the University of Southern California (USC) School of Medicine. Dr Smith received his medical degree from The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Baltimore, Md. He completed his residency at the Wilmer Institute in Baltimore, and his fellowship at the Francis I. Proctor Foundation for Research in Ophthalmology, University of California Medical Center, San Francisco. Dr Smith has been a member of the USC faculty at the Doheny Eye Institute since 1975 and director of the Cornea Service since 1981. He became vice chairman of the department in 1988, and interim chairman in 1992. Dr Smith has served as president and/or board member of many organizations and professional societies. He is the immediate past president of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is currently serving as a director of the American Board of Ophthalmology. . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
