We would like to thank Dr Grizzard for his interest in our article and for providing us an opportunity to discuss the letter that he wrote in response to the letter by Judson.1 Dr Grizzard implies that the publication of his letter lends credence to the hypothesis it presents; however, every piece of literature must be judged by its content and derives no value merely from the fact that it was published. In his letter, Dr Grizzard suggests that the geographic pattern of damage seen in the patient described by Judson, which is similar to that seen in our patients, was due to optic nerve trauma from a retrobulbar needle because he believes that they are similar in appearance to cases reported by Sullivan et al2 and Paulter et al.3 However, the fundi and fluorescein angiograms in both of these articles show important differences from
